How to Build a Website or Blog

Get your own Domain:
You need your own domain name. The cost is only about $10 per year, so there's no excuse not to get one.
Select a name that describes your intended website. If your website is about really great black dogs, grab a name like
http://reallygreatblackdogs.com.
A good place to get your domain is
http://www.godaddy.com

There are two ways to build a website.

1. Sign up with a webhost and create it yourself or use a sitemaker on the webhost.

2. Sign up with Blogger.com or Wordpress.org and let them host it remotely for you.

Webhosting:
Use one of the many excellent webhosts available.

If you're just starting out and want to be cost effective, use a free webhost like
http://freehostia.com which doesn't add advertising to your website. There are limitations in webspace and bandwidth but they are very reliable and should be sufficient for you to start making money. You can also upgrade to a paid site there when your business warrants it.

If you want to use a paid webhost, such as
http://justhost.com, you receive unlimited web space, bandwidth and a free domain.  They also provide one click installation of programs like Wordpress, Joomla and OSCommerce. Prices start at approx. $4.95/month.

Blogging:
Remotely hosting your website on
http://blogger.com or http://wordpress.com is a good option when first starting out. They are free and there are many plugins available for you to customise your blog. There is a fantastic selection of themes (designs) available and you can use any design you like. They can be setup as blogs or as static websites.  Your subdomain would look something like: http://reallygreatblackdogs.blogspot.com or http://reallygreatblackdogs.wordpress.com .
Recommended Blog plugins for Wordpress blogs:
* Adsense Manager plugin
* Twitter for Wordpress
* Platinum SEO
* Mailpress
* Google Analytics
* WP facebook Connect

Create your own website:
If you want to build a website on your own computer then upload it to your webhost, you will need a WYSIWYG html editor and an FTP program.
NVU is an excellent free WYSIWYG html editor which comes with tutorials.
Filezilla is an excellent free FTP program for uploading your website to your webhost.
Google NVU and Filezilla to download them.
